Hello Dear Readers and Friends,
Here I am with you on a new format! This is going to be an incredible space to hang out, chat, interact, and share.
Stories are my thing. And here on Substack, you’ll find my newsletter, along with notes on writing, reading, and the creative life. I’ll add personal essays, cover reveals, sneak peeks of my work, and event updates.
I will also let you in on my favorite book recommendations, craft advice, and links to the Friends & Fiction podcasts and interviews.
I am so glad you’re here. Here you’ll find all sorts of creative endeavors, inspirations and stories.
Now, guess what? In exactly two months, I’m going back on the road to talk about The Secret Book of Flora Lea and to celebrate her paperback release on April 2nd!
I met so many of you last year, and it was incredible. Now I hope to meet even more of you. We have such a ball talking about life, literature, writing, and story. Join us!
I also have some other events coming up in March, and then we have some events later in the year to celebrate the book releases from my Friends & Fiction co-hosts, so keep your eyes open for these huge events, soon to be announced.
Now HERE ARE ALL THE DATES AND PLACES FOR EVENTS, with more coming.
INSPIRATION
And you know I can’t let you go without telling you some of my favorite things inspiring me this month.
BOOK: A Happier Life by Kristy Woodson Harvey — in this very dreary January, it has been so wonderful to drop into this world. You’ll want to pre-order this one! You can event sign up for the F&F Subscription Box and get Kristy’s new book along with Mary Kay’s forthcoming Summers at the Saint, and the chance to add the paperback of The Secret Book of Flora Lea and Kristin’s paperback of The Paris Daughter.
PODCAST: Huberman interviews Rick Rubin the Creative Process
LOOK: Lake District on Instagram – these photos will calm any frenzied heart (and it’s a bit of a hint about what is coming in my next novel)
POEM: YES by William Stafford read by Maria Popova
It could happen any time, tornado,
earthquake, Armageddon. It could happen.
Or sunshine, love, salvation.
It could, you know. That’s why we wake
and look out — no guarantees
in this life.
But some bonuses, like morning,
like right now, like noon,
like evening.
—William Stafford from The Way It Is

Thank you for all the tour information. Sent you a message about the Greensboro date. Just finished the ARC of Abby Jimenez's "Just for the Summer." It was so good. Currently reading "The Covenant of Water" (it's a long one) but liking it very much! Hope to see you soon!
Happy to see you on Substack; it is a great platform and I love it. We have a wonderful bookish community here that love the authors of the books we love to read. Welcome!
