Hello, my friends!
We had a false spring down here in the south. 14 degrees gave way to 75 and now we are taking a nose-dive again. It feels a metaphor for the roller coaster that is our lives these days.
Can anyone keep up? In the spirit of at least trying, I’m here with some of the things that are inspiring me now; some news, and a reminder that I’d LOVE to see you live on the last four Tuesdays before my pub day for The Story She Left Behind. We have so much to talk about — so let’s talk about it all!
Upcoming Live Virtual Events
Join me for weekly Facebook LIVE sessions to chat about The Story She Left Behind, ask me anything — and win prizes!
Beginning next Tuesday 2/18 — and for four straight weeks leading up to my pub day — I will be going live every Tuesday night at 7pm Eastern. Each week we’ll meet up on my Facebook author page to chat about the story behind the story, the real cold-case literary mystery that inspired my novel, my research into London’s Great Smog and the Lake District, and the fascinating world of imaginary languages and childhood fantasies in literature. Each week we will dive into a new topic, I will have some special guests, and I’ll take your questions. You can ask me anything about writing, stories, the new book, my tour, or whatever you please. I hope you will join me on this journey!
Bonus! As my gift to you, my cherished readers, I’ll be giving away a new fabulous prize during each session.
What’s Inspiring Me Now
I love sharing the very things that keep my head above water, that inspire me in all the facets of my life.

FICTION — Playworld by Adam Ross. He took over ten years to pen this novel and it is extraordinary (and I haven’t even finished it yet). But if you are looking for something to become immersed in, to inspire your own writing and creativity, or just to escape into another world (it is an opus for sure coming in at 22 hours of audio or 502 pages).
NON-FICTION — Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I originally picked it up for some research I am doing for my next novel, but have fallen into her beautiful rendering of the natural world and what it means for us.
SUBSTACK — For you who are writing – Karin Gillespie has an incredible Substack called “Pitch Your Novel,” with writing tips, articles, and so much more. I love popping in and seeing what she’s posted.
MUSIC — I have harkened back to the old days with some Eagles on my playlist and I am loving it.
TV — I just finished the last season of All Creatures Great and Small and I want to slip into the screen and live there with Farnon and all the rest. Want to join me?
Book Tour
I am so excited for my upcoming book tour for The Story She Left Behind! Things kick off in grand style on Monday, March 17th at the Atlanta History Center. I’ll be joined there by my Friends & Fiction sisters Mary Kay Andrews, Kristin Harmel & Kristy Woodson Harvey. The night kicks off at 6PM with a cocktail reception, light bites, a meet-and-greet, and photo opportunity with all four of us. Then we will host a LIVE episode of #thefriendsandfictionshow discussing my book followed by a book signing/personalization. All tickets include the reception and an autographed copy of The Story She Left Behind. Get your tickets now before they sell out!
This novel begins in my beloved Bluffton in South Carolina’s lowcountry. So, it’s only fitting that I have a launch event there! If you’re in the area, I hope you will join me on Wednesday, March 19th at 11:30AM for brunch at The Heyward House hosted by my dear friends at the Historic Bluffton Foundation and Storybook Shoppe. The festivities will include a silent auction, brunch, tea, and book signing. Your ticket includes all of that plus an autographed copy of The Story She Left Behind.
In addition to Atlanta & Bluffton, my tour also takes me to so many other great places including Greenville, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Summerville, Columbia, Florence & Beaufort SC; Woodstock, Savannah, Sea Island, Thomasville & Newnan, GA; Greensboro, Raleigh, Pittsboro, Wilmington, Ocean Isle Beach & Charlotte, NC; St. Louis, MO; Columbus, OH; Franklin, IN; Nashville, TN; Pasadena & Long Beach, CA; and Fairhope, Wetumpka & Huntsville, AL. It’s a month-long whirlwind! I so look forward to seeing so many readers and getting the chance to talk with you all about The Story She Left Behind. So take a look at my full tour and mark your calendars (and get your tickets!) for when I’m in a town near you.
That’s all for now!
With Great Love,
Patti
