It is snowing in Alabama today. Yes, it is.

2025 sure is coming in with a roar — fires in the west, ice in the east. My heart breaks watching all the damage out of California. It is too much to bear. My sense of helplessness always manifests in donating to World Central Kitchen, but you choose your place! This is what the reading community does — we come together!

Meanwhile, I am counting the days to the Wild Dunes Author Event & Weekend coming up January 17-19, 2025 in Isle of Palms, SC!

Let me tell you a story: Twenty years ago, my friend, Mary Alice Monroe, had an idea. She wanted to start a readers’ weekend in Charleston during the dreary winter months. She gathered some author pals, including me, and we had our first weekend. I think maybe 50 people attended — and last year well over 500 attended!

I’m excited to return to Charleston next weekend to take the main stage with authors Kwame Alexandar and Mary Alice Monroe for the 20th Annual Wild Dunes Author Event & Weekend.

This is more than a book talk — it’s a literary experience! Your ticket to Sunday’s main event with us is the key to an entire weekend of bookish fun. From a kickoff party along the Intracoastal Waterway celebrating “Cool Local Authors with Hot New Books,” to a list of Saturday intimate events, and all set in the seaside town of Isle of Palms, just outside of Charleston.
