Patti, in my experience, not all answers pop up in neat, easy to find cubby holes. The problem also lies in our inability to ask the right questions. Many answers exist beyond the obvious and accepted. I wish I’d known this when I was much younger.
It makes me wonder if Whatever Happened to Lori Lovely? was based on Delores Hart. She left a successful movie career to become a nun. I think I would like to read about Lori Lovely and always your next novel.
I wondered the same, when looking for answers and reading Rilke.
It is hard to wait and live the questions, when you want the answers now. Somehow I don’t think the answer would be same if we were just handed it instead of learning it.
Here is a poem I wrote at the time, based on the questions going on in my life then. Thought you might enjoy :)
I wrote down the quotes of Rilke and C S Lewis as I felt they resonated with me. I turned an age that prompts me to use my gift of time in marveling at my array of my colorful zinnias of many hues. I hope to grow and continue to be as colorful as they are. I’m ok not having all of the answers. I learn from nature who never fails to amaze me.
That is one of my favorite Rilke quotes, Patti. The unanswered and uncertainties can be confounding. I wonder if living in the mystery is what Rilke meant. Wish I could ask him. I've not seen the quote from Lewis before but so beautiful. Can't wait to read Sue Monk Kidd's book!
Patti, I ask myself that question too! Why is everything a mess. And I don't have the answers either. The questions are easy but the answers are not easy. Sometimes we have to search and WAIT (which by the way, I HATE waiting!!) for the answers. But one thing I know is that nature can be a peaceful place to wait. The beach, the mountains and the lovely SC!!! We have some beautiful places at you well know in South Carolina. I just got through reading The Secret Book of Flora Lea and wondered how could life be so mixed up. How could Imogene do what she did? But where did Hazel find herself? In Nature!! So, Patti, as much as I hate to say this and hear this, waiting is what we have to do sometimes. As you wait, enjoy nature, books, music and people. I just don't want to wait 20 years for the answers!!!! Loved all of your stories. Flora Lea was my last book of yours to read. I have read and enjoyed all or them!! Great stories and writings!! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!!!! Thank you!!!!
Unfortunately, the book series I’m reading ( The Lion’s Den) takes place in Berlin just as, and after Hitler has come to power. The sad question of whether we are allowing history to repeat itself in many ways is clearly answered . We’ve chosen for this mess to happen regardless of the view in the rear mirror. How tragic!
Good questions, answers are so much harder to find. But I love your book recs. I love Sue Monk Kidd. I haven't read this one yet. Will make it a priority! And yes! on Maggie Smith! I so intrigued by The River... so many books, so little time. :)

I think we can only know this -- and accept paradox -- in later years!

WDE!
IT IS about Delores Hart!
Sue Monk Kidd is the writer who first showed me what fiction could hold. Preordered and so ready for her new book.
What fiction could hold -- I LOVE that.

To Live the Answer
Can darkness cut the ties that bind,
or is it light that sets them free?
If my voice has fallen silent,
will you still hear the words my heart speaks?
Can a well of tears run dry,
as they flow from the souls’ depths?
Can I tread the twisted path of life,
living in the moment of each step?
Can I walk to the edge of what is known,
and in falling learn to be set free?
Will I learn to see the things unseen,
lit by the grace that shines inside of me?
That is beautiful!!!!!

Yep, the natural world is waiting for us.
